It seems like everyone, their mother, and their father has a podcast. But Alex Cooper, the “Father” behind Call Her Daddy, has expanded her wildly popular podcast into a burgeoning media empire with the launch of The Unwell Network.
A Gen Z talent network, Unwell will spotlight fresh voices in content verticals like lifestyle, beauty, and fashion. One of the first creators on Unwell’s roster? None other than Alix Earle, who has a combined 8.5 million followers on TikTok and Instagram.
In 2021, Call Her Daddy became an exclusive Spotify podcast—for $60 million. And for good reason: In 2021 and 2022, Call Her Daddy was Spotify’s second-most popular podcast. It continues to top the charts with millions of listeners who tune in weekly for Cooper’s takes on relationships and interviews with celebrities, including actress/entrepreneur Shay Mitchell and rapper Post Malone.
Moorea Mongelli, a seasoned entertainment industry exec, is slated to serve as president. Unwell is a subsidiary of Trending, the media company Cooper co-founded in June, and while it’s unclear what content the company will be producing exactly, it is clear that Cooper knows how to create a community and that creator-founded and led companies are here to stay.
In an interview with Deadline, Cooper said, “We live in a world where we are inundated with content, but The Unwell Network will be the source everyone can go to for unique perspectives exploring what’s top of mind today for this generation.” With new shows launching in September, Unwell’s Instagram presence has climbed to nearly 300K in just days, highlighting Gen Z’s desire for relatable content from creators they already know and love and new voices.
